About My Doctor Advocate

Our practice is unique in that we do not ‘treat’ patients. Instead, we take control of and oversee their complex healthcare needs. Nearly everything in the healthcare system is simply harder than it has to be. We work to make it easier. A lack of communication and coordination within the healthcare system is one of the biggest problems that we see but it is a problem that can be remedied, and one we can help with.

The daunting complexity of our healthcare system is making the need for a third party that acts solely on the patient’s behalf imperative. Currently, there is virtually no way for patients to accurately elevate physician quality; the data to do so is extremely limited and difficult to access. It’s also complicated for patients to determine if they’ve been diagnosed correctly and even more difficult for them to know if they’re receiving state-of-the-art treatment. My Doctor Advocate eliminates some of this guesswork, providing patients with clear, comprehensive and objective medical guidance and case management.

With Dr. Strom’s 35 years of experience, he has seen almost every medical condition possible and has collaborated with a world class group of physician’s at Cedars Sinai Medical Center that was recently voted the best hospital in the state of California and the second best hospital in the US according to US News and World Report.

At My Doctor Advocate, located on the campus of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, we have the luxury of having access to the most widely used medical record system in the United States. By utilizing this system and communicating with your medical team, we will help you to better understand your medical questions and concerns.

Dr. Carey Strom, MD, FASGE

Founder

I’ve had very personal experiences with my mother and father in hospital settings which led me on a mission to be a patient “advocate”. My father went into a hospital in Florida where he was passing out. I did not identify myself as a physician. I requested to speak to the cardiologist before my dad’s scheduled discharge but the physician assistant (PA) told me the cardiologist was busy and I should address the questions to the PA himself. When I started speaking medical jargon, the physician assistant knew he was in over his head and needless to say my father later had a pacemaker placed that day instead of being inappropriately discharged.

In the recent past, my elderly mother was in an ICU for an overwhelming urinary tract infection. I advocated for her very hard despite the ICU medical team’s resistance and my mother lived to see the birth of three great grandchildren and be at her granddaughter’s wedding.

Everybody knows the healthcare system is not what it used to be. Much more work is placed on the healthcare provider inputting data into the EMR which causes distraction and less time to talk to the patient.
